It seems like summer just hit us upside the head here in NYC. Where spring was, I don’t know, but oh how excited I am to kick off this season’s food festivals. There’s nothing better than sunning yourself outside while stuffing your face with the best eats and drinks the city has to offer. I’ve rounded up the five events I’m totally pumped for (one is this weekend!), most of which I’ve been to in the past, so I know they’re damn good. Drop me a comment if you plan to go to one so I’ll know who to look for amongst all the awesome fare.

Imagine that, for a whole weekend, Madison Square Park is filled with BBQ made by the best Chefs & Pitmasters from around the country. I’m talkin’ brisket, pulled pork, whole hogs, baby back ribs–the works! That’s Big Apple BBQ. I’ve been to this block party several times in the past years and it’s always been a mouthwatering experience. Even better, there’s no cover for this event! Prepare for insane noms (& meat sweats–they’ll be worth it).
I’m a bourbon girl. I love it neat, on the rocks and in cocktails (Old Fashioned’s are my jam). So I will definitely be taking part in NYC Bourbon Bash, which is a day long premium bourbon tasting adventure across 8 of downtown New York’s favorite bars. And I can feel good about drinking bourbon all day because the ticket sales go to benefit local New York City nonprofit FreeArts NYC, which helps underserved children re-imagine their worlds through creative arts. Who wants to be my designated driver?
I may be biased, but I find that some of the best restaurants and food companies in NYC are based in Brooklyn. That’s why I’m so excited for Brooklyn Eats, which is the borough’s largest food & beverage trade show. There will be more than 100 exhibitors showcasing everything from craft bitters, cupcakes and chai to wine and pasta. This event is open to the public for just $10 (hell yeah!).
Those of you that follow me know that BF is a huge beer geek, to say the least. We have a different type of glassware for each type of beer, and god forbid we drink one out of the wrong glass! So needless to say, we will absolutely be at Edible Magazine’s Good Eats event, which is bringing together the best craft breweries around with some of the city’s finest fare. I plan on pairing a Luke’s Lobster roll with some of Dogfish Head’s craft brews–if beer connoisseur BF approves of that combination, of course! 😉
Secret Summer is seriously one of the most stylish and delicious events of the season in NYC. I attended the cocktail & food festival last year, and the experience was entirely immersive–it fell somewhere between renaissance fȇte & fairyland. Twelve rooms at The Foundry were adorned with other-worldly decor, bars featuring inventive mixology, fresh grilled meats & seafood and local produce that each transported me to a new dimension. So naturally I can’t wait to get back there this summer!
